Thailand Banks On Indian Tourists To Boost Tourism During Diwali & Make Up For Chinese Tourists

Raise your hands if you have been waiting to visit your favourite country Thailand. If yes, there is good news for you! Thailand will reopen its borders for fully vaccinated tourists from October 1. The Tourist Authority of Thailand revealed that travellers will be able to stay in Bangkok and 4 other provinces without 2-weeks of hotel quarantine. Provinces in Thailand like Chiang Mai, Chon Buri, Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan shall follow a sandbox model. In this tourists will stay in a certain area for 7 days after arrival and take Covid tests. From October 21, more destinations in Thailand will be added to the list. 

Thailand Is Betting On Indian Tourists For Revival Of  Tourism Industry

Thailand is now looking to attract Indian travelers during the festive season of Navratri and Diwali is a tourism-reliant economy that is hit hard with holidaymakers from countries including China. The Thai tourism industry expects Indians to resume travel during the festival of lights. Indians made up the third-largest group of visitors to Thailand before the pandemic and now Thailand is betting on Indian tourists to take advantage of its relaxed rules.

Thailand To Launch An ‘Island Hopping’ Programme For International Tourists

Thailand is all set to launch an ‘island hopping’ programme that will allow international travellers quarantine-free travel. According to the programme, travellers arriving in the island resort of Phuket can ‘hop’ to other seaside destinations. Fully-vaccinated travellers will be allowed to visit other beach destinations, including Phang Nga, Krabi, or Koh Samui after their stay in Phuket.

Will Fully-Vaccinated Travellers Be Allowed To Travel Freely Without Quarantine?

Tourists will also be allowed to travel and explore other parts of Thailand after spending 14 days in the first two island destinations. As per the country’s Phuket Sandbox reopening program, fully vaccinated international travellers will be allowed to enter the island without quarantine but will have to stay for 14 nights in Phuket before heading anywhere else in Thailand.

 

Are There Any Restrictions For Vaccinated Travellers Visiting Thailand?

However, there is one rule for vaccinated travellers visiting Thailand. Visitors must stay in Phuket for seven days before travelling elsewhere. How Is Thailand Welcoming Vaccinated Travellers?

In order to welcome vaccinated tourists back to the thrilling destination, Thailand has implemented a four-stage plan. The first stage involves permitting fully vaccinated tourists to enter the country through Phuket, Phang Nga, Chiang Mai, Pattaya, and Krabi. Tourists will undergo testing on arrival and must use a government tracing app. Proof of vaccination approved by the World Health Organisation and a Covid negative certificate tested 72 hours before departure must be produced.

Can People From Every Country Visit Thailand?

According to Travel Daily Media, Thailand is currently welcoming vaccinated travellers from low and medium-risk countries who have been vaccinated 14 days prior to their travel to Thailand. According to Australasian Leisure, tourists from the UK, France, Germany, and Scandinavia can travel to Thailand right now. 

Yuthasak Supasorn, Governor, Tourism Authority of Thailand said, “We are delighted with the announcement of Phuket’s opening as it will ensure the start of travel to our amazing country. Thailand is taking utmost precautions and strictly following SOPs to ensure the safety of tourists. However, in the best interest of all, Thailand will open in a phased manner for different countries.”

Can Vaccinated Tourists From India Travel To Thailand?

While Indian’s are not on the list right now, they will soon be able to travel to Thailand once the cases slow down in India. Thailand suspended issuing travel documents from India due to increasing Covid infections in India. In a statement, the Thai embassy in Delhi revealed that certificates of entry for non-Thai nationals travelling from India will be suspended until further notice. Thailand meanwhile, is dealing with its own outbreak.

Can Indians Fly To Thailand In Chartered Flights?

But with the new travel bans, the best way to wriggle out of this is to fly private. But what will it cost you to fly from India to Bangkok? There is no option to book per seat on any of these charter flights. If are successful in flying to Thailand, you must quarantine for a mandatory 14-day period.

All visitors must provide a vaccine certificate as part of the requirements. While minors do not need to produce vaccine certificates, travellers aged between 12 and 18 must undergo rapid antigen tests at their own expense. The rapid antigen test in Thailand costs around THB1,200 to THB1,500.
