Travel Directly To Sikkim From Delhi In 2.5 Hours Via This Air Route
Many north Indians still think that Sikkim is very distant from their places and needs a lot of travel. While Bagdogra airport in West Bengal is well-known among travellers, not many know about the Pakyong Airport in Sikkim. Before the construction of the Pakyong Airport, the nearest airport to Sikkim was the Bagdogra Airport. One needs to take a five-hour drive from the Bagdogra Airport to reach Sikkim. But the Pakyong Airport is just an hour drive from Sikkim’s capital Gangtok.
The Pakyong Airport is the first greenfield airport constructed in northeast India. Also, it is the only operational airport in Sikkim. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the airport on September 24, 2018. The airport has direct flights from Delhi and Kolkata and connecting flights from some other cities. Also, Vivanta Pakyong, which has Sikkim’s only heated swimming pool, is just a half an hour drive from the Pakyong Airport.
